About one quarter of the material consists of memorial resolutions presented to the family of Mayor Carter Henry Harrison, who was assassinated in 1893.

These resolutions were acquired by The Chicago Public Library in 1905 and are an excellent study in 19th century calligraphy.

The majority of the latter were transferred to Special Collections from the Library’s Social Sciences and History Division.
